Welcome to Computer Applications in Teaching 1. This is an asynchronous course with opportunities to dialogue during Check-Ups. Explore/analyze current technologies and concepts, create a technology-integrated lesson plan, and interface with reading assignments, assessments, video clips, and ancillary resources. Assignments support the integration of technology into a lesson plan for the final assignment.

Check the Tentative Course Schedule in the syllabus for an overview of the assignments and due dates. Two Zoom meetings scheduled for Check-Ups will be offered but attendance is not mandatory.

Virtual Office Hours: Calendly may be used for you to schedule individual 15-20 minute conferences. Calendly has not yet been integrated into Canvas, but it may be in the future.

Student Success

Set a schedule and stick to it: Time management is critical for success in an asynchronous or synchronous course. Although you can complete the online portion of the course assignments/reading in a week, I suggest you set specific dates and times to focus on this course per week. This will support you with time management for your assignments in this course, your other courses, and other responsibilities outside of the college.
Review the course schedule and Syllabus. You may want to take a few minutes to add due dates to your calendar or in the Canvas calendar.
Participate in the discussions. The Discussions are designed to optimize your learning throughout the semester. You will find a lot of helpful information from your peers. Always feel free to ask questions about things that are not clear, such as directions or expectations of assignments.
Check weekly due dates.
If you have any questions regarding an assignment, please send me an email via the Canvas Inbox or take advantage of posting questions in Discussions/Chat, if applicable.

This course is online- using an asynchronous format.

Technology Requirements and Support

This course will be facilitated online through Canvas. You will need regular access to a computer with audio and video capabilities. Having a strong and secure internet connection, as well as regular access to Canvas, since your course materials and assignments can be found on Canvas.

In case you experience technical difficulties, follow these steps:

Try a different browser (Mozilla Firefox or Chrome)
Shut down your computer, then try accessing the course and Zoom again

Course Netiquette

Check Canvas and your WSU email daily.
Respect others and keep an appropriate tone, even when their opinions differ from your own.
Capitalize only to highlight an important point or to distinguish a title or heading. An entire word or sentence in caps is often considered shouting and is strongly discouraged.
Avoid negativity and inappropriate materials. Don't say it online if you wouldn’t say it in person.
Always double-check your grammar and spelling mistakes. The way we write is the way we portray ourselves.
Avoid slang, abbreviations, and the use of emoticons.
Respect others’ time and privacy, and avoid sending unnecessary emails.
Stick to the point, and focus on making a clear and relevant contribution if you are in a discussion or chat.
